Meeting with Ambassador Agostinho das Neves Permanent Representative of Sao Tome and Principe to the UN

H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations held a meeting today with H.E. Mr. Carlos Filomeno Agostinho das Neves Permanent Representative of Sao Tome and Principe to the UN. The Ambassadors discussed possible ways of future cooperation within the UN.

The meeting offered an excellent opportunity for the Ambassadors to discuss current status of many areas of their cooperation within the UN.

Celebrating the entry into force of the Paris Agreement

At an event hosted by the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 7 October 2016, Member States have celebrated, together with the President of the General Assembly and representatives of the UN system, the deposit of instruments of ratification for the Paris Agreement.
Earlier this week the EU, Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Malta, Portugal and Slovakia deposited their instruments of ratification, thereby crossing the global emissions threshold for the Agreement to take effect.

EU and first string of its Member States setting the Paris Climate Agreement to enter into force early November

On 5 October, the EU, Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Malta, Portugal and Slovakia deposited their instruments of ratification of Paris Climate Agreement, thereby triggering its entry into force on 4 November 2016.

Reception to introduce Hungary’s candidature to the Human Rights Council

H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN hosted a reception to introduce Hungary’s candidature to the Human Rights Council for the term 2017-2019. The Ambassador confirmed that Hungary believes to have a meaningful contribution to provide to the work of the Human Rights Council, the most important human rights body of the United Nations. She expressed her hope that Hungary can count on the support of UN Member States for this important candidacy at the elections that will take place on 28th October 2016, in the UN General Assembly in New York.

UN Secretary General election: Informal hearing of Bulgarian candidate Kristalina Georgieva

H.E. Peter Thomson President of the General Assembly organized an informal hearing for the newcomer candidate Mrs. Kristalina Georgieva of Bulgaria, on 3rd October. H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations asked the candidate on behalf of the ACT (Accountability, Coherence and Transparency) Group on the role of the Secretary-General in the maintenance of international peace and security in general, and on the interaction with the Security Council, in particular when a situation involve or are likely to lead to genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes. In her national capacity Ambassador Bogyay asked Mrs. Georgieva’s views on the UN’s role in fighting terrorism and combatting “foreign terrorist fighters”.
