Informal meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the mandate on children and armed conflict

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the mandate on children and armed conflict, the General Assembly held an informal meeting in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, focused on reviewing achievements of the children and armed conflict mandate over the past 20 years.
Organizing this informal meeting, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, the President of the 71st Session of the General Assembly, gave the UN membership an opportunity to be heard on this important topic.

Kick off debate on the Security Council reform

The first informal debate of this years’ round of the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) on the question of equitable representation and increase in the membership of the Security Council took place today in the United Nations Trusteeship Council. As a long-time, supporter of the SC reform process H.E. Katalin Bogyay permanent representative of Hungary reiterated that there is a need for a strong and representative Council. Hungary remains convinced that a realistic reform, a win-win solution can be reached through open dialogue.

Participation at the United Nations Holocaust Memorial Ceremony

H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and Members of the Hungarian Parliament participated at the United Nations Holocaust Memorial Ceremony, held on 27 January, on the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. UN leaders addressing the General Assembly underlined the importance of Holocaust education in fighting anti-Semitism, and promoting tolerance and mutual respect for all cultures and religions of the world.

Hungary’s contribution to the high level dialogue on Building Sustainable Peace for All of 24th January

The President of the General Assembly convened a high level dialogue on Building Sustainable Peace for All on 24th January in order to discuss synergies between the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and sustaining peace. Hungary was represented at the event by Under-secretary of State for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Ádám Zoltán Kovács, who talked about the importance of sustainable water resources management based on the outcome of the Budapest Water Summit.

16 dead and many injured in a bus crash in Italy - our thoughts are with the families and loved ones

Sixteen people died in the coach accident which occurred in the vicinity of Verona, in Italy, just before midnight, one person in a critical condition is being kept in an artificially induced coma, two persons are severely injured, ten persons have serious injuries, while thirteen have light injuries. Twelve people survived the accident without injuries, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told the press.

Meeting with with H.E. Mrs. Valentine Rugwabiza, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda

H.E. Ambassador Valentine Rugwabiza, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations today. The Ambassadors discussed key issues and recent developments related to the UN and they also agreed to cooperate on various topics from the UN agenda, such as the fight against modern day slavery, and against the trafficking of persons as well as the improvement of intercultural and interfaith dialogue.
